A centrifugal water pump is a kinetic-style pump used to move water through a pipe system using accumulated kinetic energy. Centrifugal water pumps have durable and reliable handling capacities which allow them to transport liquids that have solids in them (such as fertilizer), as well as some chemicals. 

Parts of a Centrifugal Water Pump

All centrifugal pumps consist of five main components that work together to operate the pump:

• Pump Casing - The pump casing is the main body of the pump which houses all internal parts. The body is usually made of a durable material like cast-iron or steel for longevity and to protect the mechanics. Pump casings are designed to direct the fluid in one of two ways:
  Volute: The impeller is offset, resulting in a curved funnel with a cross-sectional area at the pump outlet. This causes the fluid pressure to increase as it nears the outlet.
  Diffuser: The impeller is stationary. Fluid pressure increases as it travels between the uniform vanes encasing the impeller. Diffuser pumps are more durable with better overall efficiency.

• Impeller: Uses kinetic energy to direct the liquid through the outlet.

• Power Source (Gas, Electric, or Manual)

• Pump Shaft: Mounted onto the impeller to connect it to the motor. Quality centrifuge water pumps will also include a shaft sleeve, which protects the shaft from damage while creating a more secure fit onto the impeller.

• Discs: The impeller is housed between either a single “semi-open/closed” disc, or two “closed” discs. Semi-Open single-disc impellers have a singular back wall that adds strength to the impeller. This style is usually used for liquids carrying solid particles. Closed two-disc impellers have a back as well as a front wall protecting the vanes, and are used in large pumps in industrial operations that handle suspended-solids.
