Backpack Garden Sprayer

Backpack Garden Sprayers have all the benefits of your favorite garden sprayer systems, with the added benefit of an easy and comfortable hands-free carrying system. The Backpack Garden Sprayer system includes all typical components of other garden sprayer systems designed to be compact and user-friendly, with comfortable and ergonomic straps for carrying the system around your garden or field.

Components of a Backpack Sprayer

Each backpack garden sprayer has similar functional components that may differ in design and efficiency depending on the model that you choose. All backpack garden sprayers are comprised of five main components:

  • A lightweight, compact tank with a capacity of 2-4 gallons.

  • A pump to draw liquid from the tank into the wand.

  • A wand, that may be customized for different precise applications.

  • Interchangeable nozzles. Many backpack garden sprayers are compatible with other brands of spray nozzles and wands, so you can customize your backpack garden sprayer with your favorite unique nozzles.

  • Comfortable straps or body harness.

Mechanics/Pump Types

While all backpack garden sprayers have the same basic components, mechanism differs from sprayer-to-sprayer. Backpack sprayers can either operate using a piston pump or a diaphragm pump. Your choice of mechanical operation should be informed by your intended use. Piston sprayers are less expensive and support a consistent pressure around 90 psi. However, they cannot be used for highly abrasive chemicals or large-volume applications. Diaphragm sprayers are more resistant to chemical abrasion, and can be used to apply powders in addition to liquids. However, these pumps often are more expensive, and require regular maintenance.

Operations

Backpack garden sprayers may either be manual or motorized. Manual Backpack Garden Sprayers require the user to operate a hand pump in order to pressurize liquid through the wand for application. Manual sprayers are affordable and easy-to-find, but can cause fatigue or arthritis following extended use. Manual sprayers are best for small properties, or targeting infestations.

Motorized Backpack Garden Sprayers are outfitted with a compact battery to support the mechanical operation of the pump. While motorized backpack garden sprayers relieve the user of fatigue and increase efficiency when treating a large property or field, motorized spray systems are often heavier, more expensive, and require regular maintenance.

Benefits of Backpack Garden Sprayers

Backpack garden sprayers are designed to increase efficiency and precision of spray application while enhancing a comfortable experience to the operator. Most spray systems are durable and easy-to-repair, and include safety features to provide extra protection to the user. Features may include lockable shut-off mechanisms, secure and adjustable harnesses, and leak-resistant seals.
