This handheld crop sensor scans existing crops and produces a digitized reading of their general health. The sensor functions by producing red and infrared light once the trigger is pulled, and it detects how much light is reflected back to it from the crop. By measuring the strength of the reflected light, the sensor shows a numeric reading between 0.00 and .99. These values are based upon the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), and they indicate how healthy the crop currently is. The higher values represent healthier crops, while lower values indicate less healthy crops.
